In the center of an agriculturally intensive province where pesticides are used constantly to improve yields and protect against crop loss, yet another special interest group demands that pesticide use be restricted within the city of Saskatoon. Firstly, having worked with Health Canada, the government agency that regulates pesticides, I know firsthand that these products are scrutinized scientifically and have proven their human safety. Secondly, do these special interest groups ever look at the scientific data before making blatant alarming statements where the public grasps on to these fear mongering tactics. Thirdly, with all the farmers in the province spraying products throughout the year, do these groups not believe product will be in the ambient air they already breathe, or are they impractical enough to assume a wall exists around the fields being sprayed.
